Junior Jags

Children 6-13 years old

We offer three (3) swim levels in our Junior Jags program. Each level builds upon the skills taught in the previous level. Swim strokes, floats, and water safety lessons are taught in a fun, safe environment.

Skills Learned

  • Entering and exiting the water safely from the pool deck/wall walking
  • Basic water skills are introduced in a fun and safe environment
  • Level 1 safety skill (bobbing)
  • Breathing through the mouth and nose, and putting face in the water while swimming
  • Picking up objects from under the water
  • Front float, back float, assisted and unassisted glides on front and back
  • Swimming with alternating arms on front (front crawl) and back (back crawl) with flutter kicks
  • Breaststroke arms and legs
  • Finning on back introduced
  • Safety topics

Prerequisites

  • Child must be between the ages of 6 and 13 before the first day of class

Skills Learned

  • Entering the water by jumping in
  • Holding front and back floats for five seconds, unassisted
  • Front glide, roll over and fin on back (Level 2 safety skill)
  • Backstroke arms and flutter kick
  • Breast stroke pulls and kick
  • Front Crawl Alternating arms and flutter kick
  • Front Crawl, roll over fin on back, roll back over swim on front
  • Learning to tread water with sculling arms

Prerequisites

  • Child must be between the ages of 6 and 13 before the first day of class
  • Child must have taken our Level 1 class or taken a swim class before.
  • Child must be able to swim a few strokes without assistance and be able to put whole face in the water and blow bubbles

Skills Learned

  • Entering the water by jumping in
  • Diving into the deep water well is introduced
  • Picking up toys from the pool bottom
  • Jellyfish and tuck floats
  • Refining all strokes (back crawl, breaststroke, and front crawl)
  • Introducing elementary backstroke
  • Introducing rotary breathing

Prerequisites

  • Child must be between the ages of 6 and 13 before the first day of class.
  • Child must have taken our Level 2 class before registering for Level 3 (no other swim lessons apply)

SRC members $65.00 per session
Community $75.00 per session
Each session consists of eight (8) 30-minute lessons.
▼   Refund and Make-Up Class Policy

Once you have paid for a Group Swim Lesson session, that payment cannot be refunded, transferred, or changed to private lessons.

We do not give refunds or make-up classes if you have to miss due to vacation, illness, or other events.  We only cancel classes due to severe weather (thunder and lightning).  If weather conditions prevent us from having class, make up classes will be scheduled.  If classes are canceled due to weather make up dates will be determined by the instructor.

Swim lesson online registration for 2018 group swim lessons will begin Monday, April 2, 2018, for all Student Recreation Center members and Tuesday, May 1, 2018, for the community.   We do not accept in-person registration or cash/checks.
