Supervising Psychologists

	Dr. Erica Ahlich Dr. Ahlich received her PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of South Florida, in Tampa, Florida. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. She received specialty training in behavioral medicine, including behavioral weight management, chronic pain, insomnia, headaches, smoking cessation, adjustment to chronic illness, and stress-related health issues. She applies a biopsychosocial model to understanding each client's unique challenges and strengths. Dr. Ahlich has a background in cognitive-behavioral therapy and related approaches (ex. dialectical behavior therapy, cognitive processing therapy). She instructs courses in applied psychology, diagnostic interviewing, and psychotherapy in the Clinical/Counseling Doctoral Program at USA. Dr. Ahlich is a licensed psychologist and is accepting clients for therapy through the USA Psychology Clinic.
	Dr. Joe Currier Dr. Currier received his PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Memphis in 2009 and has been licensed since 2011 (in Alabama and California). He completed his pre-doctoral internship and post-doctoral training at the Memphis VA Medical Center and maintains strong interests in supporting military veterans and their families. Although he has a diverse clinical background, Dr. Currier’s specific areas of expertise parallel his research in PTSD, complicated grief, and other emotional and/or behavioral concerns that can emerge following trauma, bereavement, and/or other stressful life events. He implements a highly integrative and pragmatic approach to psychotherapy, merging a number of theoretical perspectives according to the client and his/her problems, needs, and goals (e.g., cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, psychodynamic, systems). He is also committed to drawing on clinical practices that have received empirical support and students gain advanced training in a number of evidence-based interventions under his supervision. He instructs courses in evidence-based practice, psychopathology, and psychotherapy in the Clinical/Counseling Doctoral Program at USA. Dr. Currier is a licensed psychologist and is accepting clients for therapy through the USA Psychology Clinic.
	Dr. Benjamin Hill Dr. Hill earned a master’s degree in experimental psychology with an emphasis in psychophysiology from Wake Forest University and his clinical doctoral degree from Louisiana State University. He completed his internship at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and clinical fellowship in neuropsychology at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. His expertise is clinical neuropsychology which involves the measurement of brain-behavior relationships and evaluation of cognitive abilities. Dr. Hill provides evaluation services for individuals with ADHD, learning disorders, traumatic brain injury, Alzheimer's disease, and other neurologic conditions that may affect brain functioning. He has published articles examining the cognitive effects of ADHD, traumatic brain injury, and dementia and is an active researcher in these areas. Dr. Hill also supervises graduate students at the USA Psychological Clinic for neuropsychological and psychoeducational assessments. Dr. Hill is available for neuropsychological evaluations, dementia screenings, forensic consultation, and independent medical evaluations (IMEs).
	Dr. Ryon McDermott Dr. McDermott received his doctorate in Counseling from the University of Houston in 2012. Although he completed his internship at the University of Missouri Counseling Center and a post-doctoral fellowship in counseling and research at the University of Michigan, he has trained in a variety of settings, including VA hospitals and private practice. Dr. McDermott's areas of expertise are men's issues and group therapy, and his theoretical orientation is an integration of cognitive, psychodynamic, and interpersonal theories and approaches. Dr. McDermott tends to take a developmental approach to supervision and attempts to tailor supervision to the developmental need of the supervisee.
	Dr. Phillip Smith Phillip N. Smith, Ph.D., received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Texas Tech University, including a year-long pre-doctoral internship at the Southwest Consortium (University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center and New Mexico VA Hospital). Dr. Smith also completed a 2-year postdoctoral fellowship at the Center for the Study and Prevention of Suicide in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Rochester Medical Center. His research and clinical interests center on the understanding, assessment, and treatment of suicidal patients. Dr. Smith adheres to a cognitive-behavioral-interpersonal theoretical orientation in his clinical practice and supervision. He holds a license to practice psychology in Alabama and New York. Dr. Smith instructs courses in applied psychology, diagnostic interviewing, suicide risk assessment and management, and psychotherapy in the USA Clinical & Counseling Doctoral Training Program.
	Dr. Jamie Spiegel Dr. Spiegel is a licensed psychologist and the Assistant Director of the University of South Alabama Psychology Clinic. She is an Assistant Professor at the University of South Alabama in the Department of Psychology and the Clinical and Counseling Psychology doctoral program. Dr. Spiegel received her PhD in Clinical Psychology from the Florida State University in 2020 and has been licensed since 2021 (in Alabama and Florida). She completed her pre-doctoral internship at Cincinnati Children Hospital through their Clinical Psychology Track (emphasis on ADHD-specific intervention) and her post-doctoral training at Florida International University and the Center for Children and Families. Although she has a diverse clinical background, working with adults, children, adolescents and families, Dr. Spiegel’s specific areas of expertise parallel her research in childhood disruptive behaviors, academic impairment, and child and family functioning. Dr. Spiegel has a particular interest in early evaluation of neurodevelopmental disorders (e.g., ADHD), disruptive behavior disorders, and learning disabilities. In addition to supervising graduate student clinicians, Dr. Spiegel accepts clients for psychological evaluations through the USA Psychology Clinic.
	Dr. Tres Stefurak, Associate Director of Clinical Training, Dept. of Professional Studies Chair Dr. Stefurak received his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology, his M.Ed. in Community Counseling, and his B.A. in Psychology from the University of Georgia. He demonstrates clinical expertise are in the broad area of developmental psychopathology and specifically in regards to youth violence and delinquency. He is particularly interested in assessment practices in the juvenile court system and integrative and culturally-sensitive models of intervention with at-risk and court-involved youth and families. He has additional research interests in psychology of religion/spirituality, and clinical supervision. Dr. Stefurak coordinates the Mobile Juvenile Court Collaborative, which is a research, service and training project with the local juvenile court.
	Dr. Kim Zlomke, Psychology Clinic Director Dr. Zlomke received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Louisiana State University in 2010. She completed a post-doctoral fellowship in pediatric/adolescent health psychology at Baylor College of Medicine/Texas Children’s Hospital. Her research and clinical interests focus on the assessment and treatment of childhood difficulties through a behavioral framework, including applications of Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT). Dr. Zlomke also has a specialization in autism spectrum disorders and is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). She currently teaches courses in Child and Family Assessment and Intervention and supervises clinical practicum through the USA Clinical & Counseling Doctoral Training Program. Dr. Zlomke is a licensed psychologist in Alabama and accepts Blue Cross/Blue Shield as well as private payments. She provides therapy to youth and their families, and provides psychological assessments including evaluations for Autism Spectrum Disorder.
