Veterans Information

Yellow Ribbon SchoolThe physician assistant profession has its roots in the military. The first physician assistant class was begun in 1965 by Dr. Eugene Stead of the Duke University Medical Center in North Carolina, and was composed of former U.S. Navy hospital corpsmen. The curriculum he designed was based in part on his first-hand knowledge of the fast-track training of medical doctors during World War II.

The USA Physician Assistant (PA) Studies program is dedicated to recruiting and accepting veterans into the program. Qualified veterans may be given special consideration in the admissions process. We’re proud to help our veterans become Physician Assistants!

The University of South Alabama has excellent resources for veterans, and is a Yellow Ribbon School, which offers resources to assist veterans and their dependents with tuition costs. It is also a Servicemembers Opportunity College, and adheres to the highest standards of respect and integrity when dealing with our veterans.  For details on the quality of service the university promises its veterans, visit Principles of Excellence.
